This informative diagram illustrates the underlying model, but is not normative. Implementation structures may follow this diagram more or less closely.
(Note added 2015-06-17) This diagram was designed to allow an XML Schema that was as simple as possible. However, it does not easily support a simple and natural expression of InLOC information as Linked Data, either in RDF or in JSON-LD. Shortly after the main project finished, an alternative diagram was drafted using the same conventions – see the UML model diagram to support linked data.
The classes LOCdefinition and LOCstructure are both subclasses of the abstract LOC class, because the kinds of property directly relevant to each are very similar. Values of these properties may be quite different between a related LOCdefinition and LOCstructure.
